Jeet Rama On Wrestling AJ Styles, Receiving Praise From Shawn Michaels And Triple H

Jeet Rama reflects on the special evening that was WWE Superstar Spectacle and what it was like to receive words of praise from names such as Shawn Michaels and Triple H.

WWE Superstar Spectacle was the first-ever major event ever hosted by WWE specifically for the Indian market. Featuring several names that fans all over the globe know very well such as Drew McIntyre, Charlotte Flair, and Rey Mysterio, the event also allowed several superstars of Indian descent to shine on a platform designed especially to honor their culture.

One such Indian Superstar was Jeet Rama. A member of the WWE Performance Center for several years, Jeet Rama received the opportunity to test his mettle against AJ Styles, a performer widely considered to be one of the best of his generation.

In an interview with WrestleSquare’s Mr. Positivity, Jeet Rama opened up about what this match meant to him, despite unique circumstances and ring rust brought on by the global pandemic.

“When I got to know that I have a match against AJ Styles, I understood that they have shown faith in me. It was like a challenge for me. Due to COVID-19, I didn’t have any match since March (2020) before this one, no match for almost a year. But I didn’t let it burden me and thought that it’s a very proud moment for me. We Indians consider him a star and love to watch him, so it was a great opportunity for me to share the ring with him. It was a great match and experience for me.”

After the match, Rama was greeted backstage by a host of legends including Shawn Michaels. Rama detailed how special it was for him to be given praise by yet another Superstar considered to be the best of his generation.

“When I went backstage after the match, Triple H stood up and clapped for me. It was a great deal of respect for me because he’s one of the main authorities there and he was clapping for me. So there was no need to ask how the match went. There was William Regal, and Shawn Michaels came to me and specially told me that the match was great and congratulations. I don’t think anything could be better than that. I didn’t expect that reaction. (laughs)”

According to reports around January 2021, when the event was being filmed, the plan is for WWE to open up a fully operational performance center in India such as the ones they have in the United States and the United Kingdom. Learn more at this link.
