Exclusive: UFC Veteran Isn’t Happy About CM Punk Possibly Fighting In The UFC Again
UFC veteran Sean Pierson recently sat down with Fightful’s very own “Showdown” Joe to talk all things MMA.
One of the major discussions on this week’s podcast was the potential of former professional wrestler turned professional MMA fighter CM Punk potentially fighting for a second time in the UFC. According to Pierson, who left the UFC on a three fight winning streak, the whole situation is a joke.
“Who gives a fuck? Like, honestly, that guy is useless to me. He (CM Punk) didn’t even build the fight that much. I think he trained in this sport for like ten years before he got a chance to compete, showed horribly in his first fight. You know, like everybody else, he just got murdered in training, he didn’t win any fights (in training). Again, I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, in truth, that’s the way it should have been. There’s no way he should have been able to come from the WWE or whatever it was, then jump in the octagon,” says Pierson.
Pierson also points to Punk's age as an uphill climb for the former WWE Champion.
“Let’s call a spade a spade, he’s a little bit up in age, I don’t think he’s a 24 year old dude, I have no idea what his age is, I think he’s 41 or something. What’s he coming back for? What’s he trying to prove to himself? So he can get another hand picked opponent that he loses to? Mickey Gall was a hand picked opponent and it turns out Mickey was a lot more than they thought he was…you're just discrediting our sport, I don’t think he belongs. If he wants to come back to fight, make him fight through the minors, if he gets eight or nine wins, sure…bring him back. I know he sells tickets…but you're discrediting the sport.”
Punk made his UFC debut at UFC 203 in 2016, where he was submitted by Mickey Gall in the first round of their fight.
