Joey Mercury Files Lawsuit Against ROH Over Alleged Disregard For Talent Safety

Joey Mercury believes he was an employee, not an independent contractor.

Dominic DeAngelo of WrestleZone is reporting that the former agent and producer has filed a lawsuit against Ring of Honor. Mercury is alleging that he was forced to resign due to the promotion’s “lack of concern for the talent.” He says that ROH failed to conduct matches in a safe manner. Additionally, he mentions his increased workload for the company without a “commensurate increase” in pay. Royalties due are also being sought.

Mercury (real name Adam Birch), who filed the suit in the state of Maryland against ROH and Sinclair Broadcasting, is also claiming that he was an employee rather than an independent contractor during his May 2018 to October 2019 tenure. If Mercury’s title classification is confirmed to be that of an independent contractor then a claim of breach of contract will be filed.

Mercury isn’t the only former ROH star filing such a claim against the company. Former Women of Honor Champion Kelly Klein filed a discrimination suit in late February.
