Matt Hardy Details The Evolution Of “Big Money” Matt
Matt Hardy wants to be paid for his work.
Matt Hardy has always largely been a performer that thrives to reinvent himself. Through the years, Matt Hardy has proven to be so much more than the high-flying tag team specialist that wrestling fans were first introduced to in the 90s.
Currently, Matt Hardy is playing the character of “Big Money” Matt Hardy, a greedy con artist that is willing to work with younger talent but makes sure he gets a cut of what they earn.
Speaking on the Battleground podcast, Matt Hardy explained the difference between this iteration of the character and previous iterations of “Big Money” Matt Hardy.
“I think this version of ‘Big Money’ Matt is more focused on getting everything he can out of his surroundings. ‘Big Money’ Matt has always been about his wealth and his possessions and making sure that he ran the show. Now I realize I can kind of leech off of other people around me, [people] that need guidance and need my inside, need my experience, you know? People like Private Party. I offered to help ‘Hangman’ Adam Page and he very disrespectfully tried to bamboozle me. [Jack Evans and Angelico], another young team that I’m trying to help. I’m trying to help people, I just want to be paid for that work, it’s a very simple procedure. That is the biggest difference I would say from this version of ‘Big Money’ Matt and previous versions.”
Upon arrival in AEW, Matt attempted to bring his broken character to a new home. That did not go as he imagined and Matt says a lot of it has to do with the pandemic and the lack of a live crowd. You can read his comments and his praise for Tony Khan at this link.
