Dana White Says Jon Jones Should Get Title Shot
UFC President Dana White and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones haven’t been on the best of terms since Jones failed a drug test prior to UFC 200 this past July.
Jones is currently in the midst of a one year suspension from USADA after the failed drug test, but when the former champion returns from suspension, he may be returning to a title shot.
“Depending on where Jon’s head is and where he thinks he is, I would assume he would come back and try to get his title back,” White said on UFC Unfiltered. “If you’re going in there and get it, you should at least go in and try and get your belt back.”
Title shot or not upon his return to the Octagon, White states that Jones is facing some tough opposition when he fights again.
“It’s like, everybody was saying Ronda (Rousey) should get a tuneup fight; there are no tuneup fights,” he said. “When you break into the top five in the world, everybody’s nasty. And what you don’t want to do is lose to somebody (who’s ranked No.) 8, 9 or 10. It doesn’t make sense.”
Jones hasn’t competed since UFC 197, where he defeated Ovince St. Preux by unanimous decision to win the UFC Interim Light Heavyweight Title.
