Kamaru Usman Among Performance Bonus Winners At UFC 258
Kamaru Usman’s thrilling finish of Gilbert Burns earns him one of four Performance of the Night bonus recipients at UFC 258.
Usman joins Anthony Hernandez, Julian Marquez and Polyana Viana as fighters who earned $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses at the conclusion of Saturday’s fight. This means that no Fight of the Night bonus was handed out.
Usman earned a third-round TKO over Burns in a fight where he was dropped and rocked multiple times in round one. “The Nigerian Nightmare” took over in the sophomore stanza, returning the same sort of power and volume to Burns. It didn’t take long into round three for referee Herb Dean to wave things off.
Viana earned a first-round armbar submission vs. Mallory Martin on the undercard. Hernandez survived seven-time world jiu jitsu champion Rodolfo Vieira’s early grappling attempts, turning the tables and submitting the submission ace in round two. Marquez was likely down two rounds on the judges’ scorecards before submitting Maki Pitolo with 43-seconds left in the fight.
