Gina Carano Fired From The Mandalorian After Holocaust Tweet

Gina Carano just forced her way out of the ultra-popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian.

Carano and LucasFilms parted ways after the former mixed martial artist shared a post on social media implying that being a Republican today is like being Jewish during the Holocaust. Her post, the latest in a string of controversial online statements, got the hashtag #FireGinaCarano trending.

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

The publication also confirmed that UTA, her talent agency, has dropped Carano as a client.

Carano (7-1) has had one of the most successful post-career runs of any professional MMA fighters. She retired following her 2009 loss to Cris Cyborg for the Strikeforce women’s featherweight championship. Carano, now 38, subsequently made the transition to Hollywood in a meaningful way. She appeared in 16 episodes of American Gladiators as Crush (2008), scored a role in Fast & Furious 6 (2013) as Riley Hicks and played Angel Dust in Deadpool (2016).

The biggest turn of her acting career came when she was cast Carasynthia “Cara” Dune in The Mandalorian. LucasFilm had reportedly planned to unveil Carano as the star of her own spin-off to investors in December; however, those plans were scrubbed after erratic tweets in November.
