WWE Files Trademark On ‘Mei Ying’
WWE has filed for a trademark on a new ring name.
On February 3, 2021, WWE filed to trademark the name Mei Ying. The following description was given:
“Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.”
On February 3rd, NXT shared the origin story of Tian Sha, who grew up as a princess named Mei Ying. After her brother killed their father, she lived in fear and went into exile where she found a dragon to teach her, and give her the strength to restore honor to her kingdom. In return, however, Mei had to sell her soul and was put through four gruelling trials which turned her into a warrior without weaknesses. She eventually defeated her brother and ascended to the throne, but after becoming the ruler, Ying understood that she would have to become the one thing she despised. She would have to instill fear in others. According to the legend, people feared the name Tian Sha for years to come.
