New NEVER Openweight Champion Crowned At NJPW The New Beginning In Nagoya
Never doubt the Ace of New Japan.
Hiroshi Tanahashi captured the NEVER Openweight Championship at NJPW The New Beginning in Nagoya, defeating Shingo Takagi in the longest NEVER Openweight Title match in history.
Tanahashi survived everything Shingo threw at him, including being dropped on his head when Shingo hit Made in Japan. Tanahashi picked up the victory with the High Fly Flow.
This marks Tanahashi’s first reign as NEVER Openweight Champion. He has now won every title in NJPW except the IWGP United States Championship. Shingo Takagi’s reign lasted 84 days. He made one successful defense of the title.
After Tanahashi’s air guitar celebration, he was attacked by Great-O-Khan, who challenged Tanahashi to a NEVER Openweight Title bout. Tanahashi defeated O-Khan at Wrestle Kingdom 15. Great-O-Khan was victorious earlier in the night, defeating Hiroyoshi Tenzan.
