CM Punk Calls Goldberg His Favorite Wrestler Of 2020 Because He Was The ‘Smartest Man In The Room’
CM Punk heaps praise onto a part-time performing WWE Hall of Famer.
During his heyday, CM Punk openly spoke out against WWE Superstars of the past working part-time schedules and taking away from those who work year-round. A key theme in his 2011 “pipebomb” promo and his 2014 Art of Wrestling podcast appearance was his dislike for those who were not showing their regular passion for the industry getting opportunities over himself and those that worked over 300 days a year on what would normally be a WWE schedule.
However, CM Punk has since mentioned in recent years that he believed he was blinded by tropes of the wrestling industry and now, he has respect for those who treat the wrestling business as a business and don’t get bogged down by romanticizing the grind.
In that spirit, CM Punk recently took part in a Twitter Q&A where he revealed that his favorite WWE Superstar of 2020 was Bill Goldberg. Goldberg captured the WWE Universal Championship from Bray Wyatt in February at WWE Super ShowDown and went on to lose the belt to Braun Strowman at WrestleMania 36.
In his short tweet, CM Punk simply said that Goldberg was his favorite Superstar because he was the smartest person in the room.
Goldberg. Smartest man in the room.

Other tweets also saw him say that he has been too busy to keep up with wrestling and offering advice to beating levels on old Simpsons video games.
Nowadays, CM Punk has distanced himself from wrestling. It has been six years since he’s competed in a match since being eliminated in the 2014 Royal Rumble match and leaving WWE the next day. While many continue to ask, CM Punk maintains his stance that he would be open to having another match, as long as the right opportunity presents itself.
CM Punk did say he would be open to being a special Deluxe Edition character in a WWE game similar to Goldberg, Sting, and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the past. However, in his true-to-form cynicism, CM Punk said because it is him, it would likely never happen.
Yeah but since it’s me, won’t happen.

CM Punk did make a return to WWE programming in 2019 via the WWE Backstage program on FS1. That show will be returning for a special episode revolving around the 2021 Royal Rumble event, which will feature Goldberg in a WWE Championship match, but CM Punk is not scheduled to take part in this episode.
