TAELER: Lio Rush Becomes New MLW Middleweight Champion

Major League Wrestling (MLW) out of Florida hosted it’s much anticipated 2021 new year kickoff show, “Kings of Collosseum.” The event boasted the debut of Lio Rush in MLW. Fast on the heels of MLW’s announcement of Lio Rush joining the company, the then reigning and defending MLW Middleweight Champion Myron Reed jumped at the opportunity to face Rush and prove that he himself was indeed “The Young G.O.A.T…” This decision would see Myron Reed going toe to toe against the debuting Lio Rush with the MLW Middleweight Championship on the line. Heading into Kings of Colosseum, both competitors were all confidence after both had varying levels of pure excellence in 2020. Pensive was definitely not in eithers’ vocabulary as both were ready to walk out that night as MLW Middleweight Champion.

As the night unfolded it would appear that a reign versus a reputation was really on the line and the bacon bits on top of that success salad would be the bragging rights of having won. Hand raised. Heading into Kings of Colosseum Champion Myron Reed would need to be able to cash the check his mouth wrote when he issued his challenge to Lio Rush. Both men being no strangers to overcoming equal parts adversity, expectations, biases, and stereotypes. All in the hopes of busting through that proverbial glass ceilings to fulfill childhood a dream. A dream whose landscape drastically changes with life experience as one goes out into the world to achieve their aforementioned dream.

As it would happen the Champion would enter this clash of champions fight. One being the literal Champion and the other being a Champion for change. Both setting out to further cement their legacies and commit themselves to all that they stand for. After both had immensely successful 2020’s despite it being a pandemic stricken year, to start out 2021 with such success would only add to their impeccable resumes. A hard fought bout that certainly left fans wanting more. MLW Matchmakers had a gem of a storyline budding in this bout. One I’d love to see continue far into the year.

Lio Rush set out to be victorious and that’s exactly what he did at Kings of Colloseum. Inspite of every obstacle that was thrown at him from Myron Reed, Lio Rush would leave as the new MLW Middleweight Champion. Effectively ending what MLW refers to as a record breaking reign amassed by Myron Reed. A record that saw Reed as a successfully reigning and defending MLW Middleweight Champion for more than 420 days. 420 dats in which he fought, did battle with, defending, and cemented his legacy within the MLW history books. The immovable force he wouldn’t be able to overcome would be in the guise of the self proclaimed “Godfather of the new breed. The youngest G.O.A.T in history of our industry,” Lio Rush.

The new MLW Middleweight Champion demanded respect now be put on his name. As he views it, he paved the way for people like the former longest reigning MLW Middleweight Champion Myron Reed. To say this title fight got real. Intensely heated. Both equally inadequate to describe the building clash between two worthy competitors. Lio Rush proclaims it’ll be a very long year for the Middleweight Division as he intends to keep it firmly clasped around his waist. Further comments from the former Champion were cut off by a vicious attack. Nonetheless, this isn’t the last for Lio Rush nor Myron Reed. Kings of Colosseum had three titles on the line and each bout was well worth the earning.
