Scott D’Amore Responds To Critics Who Say AEW Has Nothing To Gain From Relationship With IMPACT
Scott D’Amore believes wrestling is like a rising tide when it comes to success and that the more other promotions succeed, the better it is for the industry.
IMPACT Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling ended 2020 by entering a working relationship that will now see Kenny Omega reunite with Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson against Rich Swann and The Motor City Machine Guns live on Pay-per-view on Saturday, January 16th, 2021 at IMPACT Hard To Kill.
Throughout the Genesis of this working relationship, many Critics on the internet have questioned what exactly AEW has to gain by working with IMPACT. AEW began in 2019 and immediately Rose to the number two position as far as North American promotions are concerned. On the flip side, IMPACT continues to show their resiliency as they improve year-over-year and have behind them a great legacy from the days of TNA Wrestling.
Scott D’Amore recently spoke with Sports Illustrated and offered a response to the criticism that this particular working relationship is more of a parasitic one.
“Everyone is entitled to their position. Look, AEW built a great product in a very short period of time. Our hats are off to Tony Khan and his team. I’ve always believed that success in the wrestling business is like a rising tide in that it leads to more success for everyone.
“I’m very happy we get to do some crossover stuff with them. Often in wrestling, the question is ‘Why would we work with someone else?’ This has put eyeballs on both companies. We’re very appreciative, and we think it’s added a buzz for both shows. The collaboration on the talent level creates the potential for a lot of fresh matchups. We’ll see where it goes next, but it is a great time to be a wrestling fan and a great time to be in the wrestling business.”
In regards to what we could see in the future, specifically a crossover matchup between Matt and Nick Jackson, The Young Bucks and The Motor City Machine Guns, Scott D’Amore said the possibilities are endless.
“The Young Bucks are two great guys. If someone isn’t happy with their success, I feel like they’re not a fan of great human interest and success stories. They went out and built this incredible thing. The Bucks have teased a return to Impact, and I’ll keep saying this—the door is always open. I worked with them briefly when they were first here, and they were great then and they were also great in Japan. They’re great people, and they’ve revolutionized the wrestling business and the way it looks.”
He continued, “There is a bond that connects the Young Bucks and the Motor City Machine Guns. It’s a match we saw years ago, and seeing them hook up one more time is a dream match. They would put on an unbelievable, emotionally rewarding match for wrestling fans.”
The working relationship will continue this evening as IMPACT presents its first episode of 2021. Kenny Omega is scheduled to appear and we will have live coverage of all of it beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern.
