In the opening bout of NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 15 night two, Toru Yano won the 2021 King of Pro Wrestling Provisional Trophy in a four-way bout. Yano pinned BUSHI after hitting a double dick punch on Bad Luck Fale and Chase Owens.
The four competitors were decided at night one of Wrestle Kingdom 15 as they were the final four men in the NJPW Rambo.

The KOPW Trophy is defended throughout the year with the competitors picking their respective stipulations and fans voting on the stipulation for the match. The man who holds the trophy at the end of the year is the official King of Pro Wrestling and a new trophy is created for the new year.
