Mick Foley, The Rock, And Tony Schiavone Reflect On 22-Year Anniversary Of Putting Butts In Seats
On January 4, 1999, the Monday Night Wars shifted as Mick Foley won the WWF Title from The Rock. The night was infamous as it was a taped show and Tony Schiavone spoiled the result on WCW Nitro, saying the result would “put butts in seats.”
Raw had been winning the weekly ratings for nine straight weeks prior to the week of January 4, 1999, but with Raw being taped that week, 600,000 people switched channels upon Schiavone’s spoiler.
On social media, Foley and The Rock reflected on the game-changing moment in wrestling. Tony Schiavone even jumped in with his memory.

This was a massive and historic moment in pro wrestling during the infamous “Monday Night Wars”.
It all hinged on one man becoming @wwe champion – @RealMickFoley.
We all had our role to play and I was honored to “do the honors” for you and our business, my friend. #foley — https://t.co/YsSnM43b59— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) January 4, 2021

Foley and Rock would rematch at Royal Rumble 1999 in the infamous I Quit match.
In more recent Rock N Sock news, Foley announced he tested positive for COVID-19, but is no longer contagious. Meanwhile, The Rock gifted Harvey Wippleman with a new ride, free of crackheads.
