Edge Says He Will Never Compete In Another TLC Match
Edge, one of the original innovators and masters of the TLC Match, says he will never compete in another one of those bouts in a new Instagram post.
In 2011, Edge was forced to retire due to persistent neck injuries after it was determined that if he took another bump, he was risking paralysis. The state of Edge’s body was no doubt due in part to the years of competing in high-risk stipulation matches like Tables, Ladders, and Chairs.
Of course, nobody could have predicted when Mick Foley booked the first-ever TLC Match for the SummerSlam event between Edge and Christian, The Dudley Boyz, and The Hardy Boyz, and spoofed The Wizard of Oz’s “lions, and tigers and bears, oh my!” line that it would be turned into a pay-per-view event with over a decade-long lineage at this point.
The last time Edge competed in a TLC Match was in 2010 when he captured his 10th World Championship when he defeated Kane, Alberto Del Rio, and Rey Mysterio in a Fatal 4-Way TLC Match. reflecting on this match a new Instagram post prior to last night’s pay-per-view, Edge revealed that he would never participate in another one of the matches that he helped put on the map.
Happy #tlc day. This is a throwback to the last one I competed in. And let’s be honest, the last one I’ll ever compete in. But it ended well with my 10th world championship. If you had told any of the 6 of us, you know who the other 5 are, that there would be a ppv devoted to a match that our Dr.Frankenstein brains put together, no way we’d believe you. But here we are. To all the talent performing tonight, blow the doors off, and be careful.
Of course, Edge came back to action at the 2020 Royal Rumble event and did jump off of a ladder and crashed through tables during his comeback match against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 36, but a TLC Match is a different animal and while you never say never in wrestling, “The Rated R Superstar” says that this is a pretty safe bet.
