Kevin Owens Had Plans To Go Back To NXT And Appear On NXT UK

Kevin Owens showed up at NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2019 as a one-off, but it could have been more.

In an interview with Bleacher Report in October, Owens revealed that plans were in motion for him to return to NXT, but it didn’t happen. He did make a surprise appearance at TakeOver: WarGames, but wasn’t a mainstay on the brand.

Speaking to Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Owens revealed that not only was he supposed to go back to NXT, but plans were in place for him to travel to NXT UK as well.

“They’re all extremely talented guys, and I would love to compete with any of those guys,” Owens said about NXT UK. “I kinda got to do a bit with Imperium last year, so that was cool. At one point there was a plan for me to go back to NXT at some point last year, which didn’t happen, obviously. But we had even discussed, maybe if that happens, then maybe I could show up on NXT UK and work with all these different people. I’d love to get to do that! The UK – all of Europe, really – I had a really fun time there as an independent wrestler and again touring with WWE. Any chance I would get to be there more and wrestle for those fans – if or when we get an audience back, or even in this setting. To be a part of that and help do good stuff over with NXT UK, I’d love that for sure.”

Owens did end up returning to NXT earlier this year as a special commentator and hosting an episode of The KO Show.

He is currently part of the SmackDown brand and is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship this Sunday at WWE TLC.

Fightful will have its own interview with Owens premiering at 12 p.m. ET on Friday, December 18.
