Elias Tore Pectoral Muscle While Working Out, Discusses Creating Music During Time Off
Elias was the victim of a hit-and-run accident on WWE television in May, keeping him on the sidelines until his eventual return in October.
In reality, Elias had suffered a torn pectoral muscle that would keep him off television.
Speaking to Lilian Garcia on Chasing Glory, Elias discussed how he tore his pectoral muscle.
“I got legitimately injured on SmackDown, shortly after WrestleMania. I was bench pressing in the gym and tore my pectoral muscle when coming down. Just totally went. Buddy Murphy was spotting me and thankfully he was there to help me out. When I was done, he said, ‘Dude, I heard that.’ It sounded like a t-shirt tear. I called Triple H maybe five minutes later, because I know he tore his, he goes, ‘Alright, we’ll get you a MRI and taken care of with the best people.’ I got a MRI an hour later. They took care of me, which they have any time I’ve been hurt,” he said.
While he wasn’t able to wrestle, Elias began working on new music to keep himself occupied and creatively satisfied. Shortly after his return to TV, Elias put out his second EP “Universal Truth.”
When talking about writing while injured, Elias said, “I was down and just decided ‘I gotta use this time to do something. I’ll write some music,’ which I do anyway, on my own time, even when I’m not making an album. I told Kevin Dunn, ‘When I come back, I would love to have something.’ He was on board, got me in contact with everyone. I had written ten songs, they narrowed it down to four, got in the studio. Each song has their own story and meaning to me. ‘Amen’ is a song I wrote where the first line is ‘How many times are they gonna kill me?’ It came off my experience in WWE at that point. From a storyline perspective, from a professional perspective. [WWE] wants nothing more for you than to succeed, but you get put through the test. From a storyline perspective, they were killing me off on TV every so often. Then, the song just started coming to me.”
Upon his return, Elias kicked off a feud with Jeff Hardy, the man accused of performing the hit-and-run. Hardy would end the feud with a victory in a Symphony of Destruction bout.
Elias is now paired with Jaxson Ryker on WWE Raw.
