Super J-Cup 2020 Winner Crowned, Calls Out Hiromu Takahashi After Finals

This year’s Super J-Cup features a repeat champion for the third time ever.

El Phantasmo defeated ACH in the finals of a one-night, eight-man tournament to win the 2020 Super J-Cup, his second tournament victory. El Phantasmo joins Naomichi Marufuji and Jushin Thunder Liger as the only wrestlers in history to win the tournament more than once.

On his way to the tournament finals, El Phantasmo defeated Lio Rush in the quarterfinals and then Blake Christian in the semifinals. Before the finals even started, El Phantasmo attacked ACH from behind and threw the Super J-Cup trophy at ACH.

After the match, El Phantasmo further broke the trophy and threw away the golden jacket that is awarded to the Super J-Cup winner. He took the microphone and called out Hiromu Takahashi, who won NJPW’s Best Of The Super Jr. tournament on December 11. El Phantasmo said he’ll see Takahashi at Wrestle Kingdom, answering Takahashi’s call after his tournament victory regarding facing the winner of the Super J-Cup before moving on to face IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Taiji Ishimori.

Takahashi took notice of El Phantasmo’s win and post-match comments on Twitter. Takahashi noted that he will see El Phantasmo soon.

NJPW has yet to announce Ishimori’s next title defense with Wrestle Kingdom 15 being the next major show for the Japanese promotion. Wrestle Kingdom 15 is set to take place at the Tokyo Dome on January 4 and 5, 2021.
