Report: NXT India Program Expected To Begin Filming In January 2021
Plans for NXT India are underway.
Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics and John Pollock of POST Wrestling report that WWE is set to begin filming a television series in India beginning January 2021. The plan is to feature an eight-man single-elimination tournament and is described as NXT India.
The series will reportedly air on linear television in India along with a digital window through WWE Network.
It is unknown when the series will air.
During the WWE third-quarter financials call in October, WWE President & Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan announced WWE would be partnering with Sony in India to bring fans an event that would primarily feature the development of Indian superstars.
Later in the call, Khan said they want to make sure they have the right talent for the event and that the cost structure will resonate for WWE and Sony business. He also said there will be more events if it makes sense for all parties involved.
WWE extended its partnership with Sony Pictures in India in March. SPN has the rights to air Raw, SmackDown, NXT as well as WWE pay-per-view events live on its sports and digital platforms in English, Hindi and regional languages. You can find the press release by clicking here.
