NJPW Best Of The Super Jr. 2020 Winner Crowned, El Desperado Unmasks During Finals

A new Best Of The Super Jr. winner has been crowned.

After months of waiting for the tournament to begin, Hiromu Takahashi is the 2020 Best Of The Super Jr., becoming a two-time winner after winning his first BOSJ in 2018. Takahashi defeated El Desperado in the 2020 finals.

The final had plenty of noteworthy moments from Takahashi hitting a destroyer on Desperado to even driving him back first into an exposed turnbuckle. But the biggest moment was undoubtedly the surprise unmasking of Desperado. Midway through the match, Takahashi ripped the top part of Desperado’s mask and Desperado decided to take off what was left of it and wrestled the rest of the match without the mask.

Winning the tournament now puts Takahashi in line to face current IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Taiji Ishimori, potentially at Wrestle Kingdom 15. Ishimori defeated Takahashi back at Summer Struggle in Jingu in August. After the match, Takahashi not only called out Ishimori, but also the eventual winner of the Super J-Cup, taking place in the United States on December 12.

The tournament was originally set for the first half of 2020, but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic as well as other major NJPW shows and tournaments like Dominion and the New Japan Cup.

This year’s Best Of The Super Jr. tournament ran in conjunction with the World Tag League, a first for both tournaments. The winner of the World Tag League can be seen at this link. For full results of today’s card, click here.

With the two tournaments now over, NJPW now kicks off the road to Wrestle Kingdom 15, set to take place over the course of two nights on January 4 and 5, 2021 at the Tokyo Dome.
