Apollo Crews Doesn’t Care If He’s On Raw Or SmackDown, Wants To Be Part Of Something Special
Apollo Crews has had a whirlwind 2020 as he went from seldom used to United States Champion, to back on the sidelines once again.
After spending the majority of the year on Raw, where he became a featured player, he was drafted to SmackDown in October.
Speaking to Lilian Garcia on Chasing Glory, Crews discussed changing brands and how he just wants to do something special in WWE.
“No matter where I’m at, and a lot of it comes down on me, as long as something productive is happening, it doesn’t matter where I am. I love Raw, I love SmackDown, each show has its different thing. Wherever I go, I just want to be part of something special. When I see special things happening and I’m not part of it, I’m like, ‘Damn, it would be so cool to be part of that.’ When your team wins a championship and you don’t play in that game, even though you win, there’s something inside you that wants to be on the floor. I just want to do my part and win championships. After tasting gold, I want to get back there,” he said.
Crews noted that he needs to take more risks, which is something he learned early in the year when he won the United States Championship.
“The first title run helped me realize (I have to take risks). These things don’t just get handed to you. You have to go out there and get it and take it. I’m going to go take it. I want to show the layers and stories do help you with that. It’s nice to show, ‘this is what happens with someone pushes you.’ Is he the guy who pushes back, does he run away? I want people to see the different layers,” he said.
Crews has only appeared twice on television since being drafted to SmackDown, losing quickly to Sami Zayn on SmackDown and competing in the dual-brand Battle Royal at Survivor Series.
