Tony Khan On ‘Balance Of Power Shifting’ Tweet: Did I Get Heat Or Did I Get Buzz?

On November 11, Tony Khan tweeted, “the balance of power in wrestling will shift tonight” ahead of AEW Dynamite.

Fans got excited at the possibilities of what could happen and many were left disappointed when the big surprise was the return of PAC.

Khan later clarified that there was “more to come” but didn’t go into specifics. Speaking on an AEW media call ahead of the latest episode of Dynamite, Khan promised he would deliver.

“Did I get heat or did I get buzz?” Khan questioned when asked about the “heat” he got over his initial tweet. “The next week, we did our biggest rating of the pandemic, tied for our second-highest rating of the year the week after I promised people ‘the balance of power is shifting.’ We’re coming off the holiday where we were still number one, male 18-49 TV show and number seven on television. I was 100% right in what I said. Whether it got heat or not, that’s not the point because heat draws in wrestling. People wanted to see what was going on and I was right about the balance of power shifting and people are going to see that I’m right. I said what I said for a reason. The balance of power is shifting in AEW storyline-wise, but the balance of power is shifting towards the people and the fans. Wrestling is becoming more about the fans and they’re getting to see more of what they want. I’m willing to work with different people and companies. Things are going to change. There’s already been a lot in the last 18 months and there’s going to be more. There is a difference between heat and buzz and if it was heat, it was a good kind of heat because it definitely drew. I can’t really open my mouth without upsetting some fans. I’d rather worry about the people we can please and in this case, the reaction was exactly what I wanted.”

Khan delivered on “working with different people and companies” on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite when Sting made his arrival in the company and a partnership with Don Callis and IMPACT Wrestling was formed in the main event segment.

New AEW World Champion Kenny Omega is set to appear on the upcoming episode of IMPACT alongside Don Callis to explain what went down on Dynamite.
