AEW Dynamite 12/02/20 Results: Winter Is Coming, Omega vs. Moxley For The AEW Heavyweight Championship

– The show begins with a Winter is Coming opening intro. Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Jim Ross welcome us to AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming. They are coming live from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. We go straight to the ring for the Dynamite Diamond Battle Royal.

Dynamite Diamond Battle Royal
– The following competitors are already in the ring, and they are Alex Reynolds, ‘Hangman’ Adam Page, Isaiah Kassidy, John Silver, Kip Sabian, Marq Queen, Matt Hardy, Matt Sydal, Miro, MJF, Orange Cassidy, Sammy Guevara, Scorpio Sky, Shawn Spears, and Wardlow

The match begins, but Shawn Spears and Scorpio Sky stay out of the ring; Spears is avoiding Sky. We then get an MJF promo with picture and picture. Matt Hardy eliminates Isiah Kennedy as a surprise. Adam Page eliminates Luther. Shawn Spears now eliminates Sydal by the ramp. When Spears turns around, Sky grabs Spears and throws him over the top rope, and Spears is eliminated. Tully Blanchard leaves his seats, and he helps load a piece for Spears glove. Matt Hardy eliminates Alex Reynolds, and then John Silver is eliminated a moment later. Hardy almost eliminates Adam Page, but The Dark Order saves Page as he lands on top of him. Page is back in the ring, and does the Buckshot Lariat MJF and Sammy are lying in the corner while Wardlow and Miro battle each other. MJF and Guevara double team Miro but Miro escapes and is then clothesline immediately. Then MJF, Wardlow, and Guevara team up to throw Miro over the Top Rope. Jungle Boy and Sammy Guevara exchange punches and get in the corner, but MJF pushes both men over the top rope. MJF and Wardlow think they won, but they realize Orange Cassidy has not been eliminated. Cassidy hits the Orange Punch on both guys, Cassidy throws out Wardlow. Cassidy and MJF are the only ones left and advance to next week for the finals.

Winners: MJF and Orange Cassidy

Frankie Kazarian vs. Chris Jericho

Frankie Kazarian is headed out to the ring for the second match of the night.

They announce his match against “Le Champion” and the Inner Circle leader, Chris Jericho, is up next. On that note, we head to our first commercial break of the evening. We’re back from commercials, and after the introduction, we hear Judas in my Mind, and Jericho is making his way down to the ring with some of the Inner Circle members. Jericho starts by going at Kazarian and match out to the floor again. They go to picture-in-picture commercials with Jericho dominating Kazarian.

We are back from break, and we see Jericho in the middle of delivering the suplex to Kazarian. The fans are showing their support for Jericho. He is showboating and posing for the fans; he then leaves himself open for a roll-up. Kazarian is now in control and getting offense in. Kaz and Jericho head to the top rope and Kazarian hits Jericho with the Flux Capacitor Jericho lands very hard. The Referee Aubrey Edwards with the very close two count, but Jericho keeps going on. Jericho goes for The Codebreaker. Kazarian avoids it, and he ends up applying The Walls of Jericho to Chris Jericho himself. Ortiz is on the apron and tries to distract Kazarian, but he doesn’t let go of the hold. Kazarian loses the grip. He then secures the hold again. We see MJF and Wardlow down at the ring. MJF has the towel, and he looks like he’s going to throw in the towel. Sammy Guevara runs out and grabs the towel from MJF, and stops him. Jericho sees what is going on and is distracted by Guevara. Kazarian rolls him up, Jericho kicks out at two. Kazarian rolls him up again, and again Jericho kicks out. Kazarian walks right into a Judas Effect from Jericho. Jericho gets the win by pinning Kazarian.

Winner: Chris Jericho

Dr. Britt Baker vs. “Legit” Layla Hirsch

Dr. Britt Baker’s theme hits and comes out with Rebel. A pre-recorded interview airs while she makes her way to the ring.

“Legit” Layla Hirsch is making her way to the ring for the next match of the night.

Hirsch takes Baker down and looks to do a Cross Armbreaker. Baker makes it to the ropes to avoid the hold. Hirsch now takes Baker down easily. Hirsch takes Baker down and again looks for an Armbar, but Baker avoids it. Baker nails Hirsch with a DDT to give her momentum. We go to a picture-in-picture commercial break as the action continues. Baker continues to dominate; we return live, seeing Hirsch fighting back. We see her dive to the floor but misses Baker. This allows Baker to hit a Sling Blade on the floor. Baker gets some more shots in, and then he pulls Hirsch back into the ring. Baker is looking to do a Suplex, but Hirsch reverses and hits Baker with a kick before taking her down and again looking for the Cross Armbreaker. Baker reverses out of it and ends up getting her Lockjaw finisher on Hirsch. Hirsch now escapes it; a moment later, she has Baker is Cross Armbreaker on Britt again. The ref almost called for the bell, but Baker escaped. Hirsch knocks out Baker with a big kick; Hirsch goes to the top-rope, and Reba distracts the ref. Which now allows Baker to drop Hirsch face-first to the middle turnbuckle. She does a twisting neck-breaker. She re-applies the Lockjaw again, and Hirsch taps out.

Winner: Britt Baker

– After the match, Thunder Rosa attacks Baker, but officials break it up quickly.

Darby Allin & Cody Rhodes vs. Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs

All four guys start brawling once they’re all in the ring. Cody and Darby get Starks by himself in their corner. He breaks free from Darby. Starks is now able to tag to Hobbes, who then immediately used his strength to take control. He sends Allin into the barricade on the floor and then lands a Delayed Vertical Suplex. Hobbes and Starks are frequently tagging in and out as they break down Allin in their corner. Hobbs lands a Backbreaker and applies a bear hug.

Starks is tagged in, and both he and Darby collided headshots in the corner. Hobbs is now tagged in first and prevents Darby from making a tag, and then puts him in a bear hug and tosses him back into their corner. Hobbs is now somewhat showboating right in-front of Cody; Darby now tries to surprise him with the Sunset Flip; Hobbs grabs him by the head and does an Overhead Suplex. Darby manages to get into his own corner and make a tag to Cody. Cody landed a springboard dropkick on Hobbs and then did a DDT to Starks. Arn and Taz get on the apron, Starks goes after Cody’s eyes. Cody recovers and hits the Cross-Rhodes on Starks. Darby tags himself in, Cody then hits a splash onto Hobbs outside the ring. Darby lands the Coffin Drop and pins Starks.

Winner: Darby Allin & Cody Rhodes

– After the match, Hobbs jumped Darby Allin, and a brawl broke out. Arn Anderson got involved but got beat down for his trouble. Dustin Rhodes tried to interfere, and he turned the tide for a moment, but Brian Cage ran down and returned the momentum to Team Taz. Just as Taz started directing traffic, the lights went out, and a Winter themed video played on the screen. It marked the debut of Sting in AEW, and he made his entrance to a big reaction. Fake snow fell in the arena as he cleared the heels with his bat and walked out to the ring. He got face to face with Dustin, Cody, Darby, and Arn Anderson before acknowledging the crowd and taking a walk to the back.

Kenny Omega vs. Jon Moxley (C)

It is announced that Sting will speak next week.

Don Callis is joining on commentary at the request of his friend Kenny Omega. Justin Roberts is in the ring doing the introductions. We get Kenny Omega’s flashy entrance as Roberts is reading Omega’s accomplishments. He makes his entrance; he has pyro. The announcers will stay with the match even if it goes past the10 pm hour and will stay until it ends. Jon Moxley makes his entrance by going through the crowd, like normal, and gets a great reaction.

The two start with a face-off in the middle of the ring and go back and forth a bit before the match begins. Moxley then looks at getting the Chokehold early in the match. Omega gets to the ropes. Omega is now looking to do a Chokehold. Omega gets tripped, and he hits the mat, and the two gather themselves. Moxley starts to work on Omega’s neck until Kenny can get him into the corner. Now, Omega is unloading with a bunch of strikes. Moxley nows hits a clothesline, Omega hits a hurricanrana, and that sends Moxley to the floor. Omega goes after, but Moxley gets in the ring, drops him with the spinning slam. He then sends Omega outside of the ring. Moxley then hits a nasty suplex on the floor. They are now battling and go back and forth. They end up on the floor yet again; Omega goes after Moxley’s knee. Omega throws Moxley back into the ring. Omega does the slingshot dropkick to the knee, really starts to go after the knee. Then he goes for the cover but only a two-count. Omega now puts Moxley’s leg through the ropes, then goes kick to it, but Moxley lands a lariat on him. Moxley’s knee is injured and is bothering him. Omega is up and goes for a kneebar. Omega hits Moxley with some chops, and then he kicks the knee again. Moxley is now back up; he does a German Suplex to Omega, Moxley attempts to do an exploder, Omega fights Moxley off. Moxley then hits a pump handle slam, goes for the cover, but only gets the two-count. Moxley is up and hits a suplex. Moxley goes for the cover but only a two count.

Omega now is looking for a springboard move but goes right into a Paradigm Shift. Moxley rolls him over but does not go for the pin. Moxley now grabs two chairs and tosses them in the ring. Referee yelling at Moxley to stop. Moxley sets up both chairs and sits down; he tells Omega to sit in the other chair. He tells Omega to hit him; they go back and forth. Moxley now gets a big strike in, it backs Omega up, and he then hits Moxley with a V-Trigger, then the Snap-Dragon Suplex, and again. Omega goes for another v-trigger; instead, he does the Release German Suplex. Omega is now going with a pump knee strike, but Moxley hits him with a lariat. Moxley now hits another paradigm shift and goes for the cover; we have a very close three count. Omega is taking time out on the floor; he is showing he is tired. Moxley goes for a suicide dive and but takes the v-trigger in midair by Omega. They are now in the ring again; Omega decides to go up top and do a missile dropkick to Moxley. He does the V-Trigger to the back of his head. Now, he does the Tiger Driver ’98, goes for the pin, but only a two-count. Omega with a knee, Moxley can block it, hits an elbow strike, but now he runs into another V-Trigger, goes for the One-Winged Angel, changes his mind, and goes to do a Paradigm Shift, it doesn’t work. Moxley tries for a bulldog lock. Omega fights out and hits the dropkick, now Rip-Cord. Omega heads to the top rope, Moxley goes to shove him, Moxley lost his balance and went down to the floor. Omega on the apron, now Moxley drops him face-first on the apron. Moxley suplexes Omega into the heaters that were placed by the ring. Omega lands hard on the concrete; the Referee calls for the doctor. Now, Don Callis goes to the floor and checks on Omega.

Moxley stays back but then pulls Omega into the ring and throws punches at Omega. Callis gets the mic and tells the referee that Omega’s hurt. Moxley shoves Callis down; Callis now gets the ref’s attention, Omega has the mic. Omega hits Moxley in the head with the microphone. Moxley is now bleeding. Omega pulls down his knee pad, multiple V-Triggers to Moxley. He hits one last one to the back of the Moxley’s head. Omega hits One-Winged Angel. Goes for the pin. We have a New AEW World Heavyweight Champion.

Winner: Kenny Omega, New AEW World Champion

– After the match, Don Callis gets in the ring and hands the title to Kenny Omega. Omega and Callis scurry off and move backstage. They walk past Tony Khan, who is yelling at both of them as they walk by him and ignore him. They walk past some of the AEW roster; the roster is booing Omega as he keeps walking. They are outside head to a vehicle. Alex Marvez tries to stop them and asks them what is going on? Callis says they will all hear about it on Tuesday! Marvez says, “Tuesday, but Dynamite is not on, on Tuesdays”. Callis says Impact is on Tuesdays, and you will hear them both on Tuesday and the show ends.
