Former WWE VP Of TV Tech Recalls Editing Around Chris Benoit And Jerry Lawler
During his 35 years in WWE, Kevin Quinn had to deal with many tough television situations.
Quinn is a former WWE Sr. Editor, Director of Editing, Technical Director, Director, and VP of TV Technology who was released by the company this year due to COVID-related cutbacks.
Taking to Reddit, Quinn revealed some of the tougher situations he and his team had to edit around over the years.
When asked how difficult it was to edit the episode following the news Chris Benoit killed his wife, son, and himself, Quinn replied, “Can I just say ‘difficult’?” He would later say, “It was a strange time when nobody knew the truth at first. Then it was a horrible situation,” when asked what it was like behind the scenes on that night.
Benoit committed double-murder and suicide in 2007. WWE canceled Raw that night but aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit.
Quinn was also about the craziest thing he had to edit and he replied, “Jerry Lawler was accused of statutory rape and we had already shot 3 hours of program. We had to remove him from every show already shot. It took 2 over-nights.”
Lawler was accused of statutory rape, sodomy and intimidating a witness in 1993. He missed Survivor Series 1993 as a result.
Elsewhere during the Reddit AMA, Quinn described what it was like to work for Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn. You can find his replies by clicking here.
