Rumble Commentary Team Set, Update On Michael Cole’s Future
It was announced on last night's episode of Talking Smack that WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler will make his return to the commentary desk at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view from San Antonio on January 29th
Lawler will apparently be calling just the 30-man main event with Michael Cole and Corey Graves.
Lawler made his return to WWE TV last night on SmackDown from his hometown of Memphis and hosted a rendition of the old "King's Court" segment. Dolph Ziggler was the guest and he tried to murder Lawler. You can watch the segment at the top of the page.
In other news from the commentary desk, it looks like that Michael Cole wants to move to an off-camera role for the WWE. PWInsider is reporting that Cole has gradually become more and more interested in transitioning from the announce table to a behind-the-scenes role. Cole already handles much of WWE’s production work and mentors up-and-coming commentators to honing their skills.
It is not known when Cole might completely transition to an entirely off-screen role, but word is that the chatter has recently gotten louder regarding this move. Cole has been on-screen for the company since 1997, when he debuted as a backstage interviewer in 1997 before moving to the Raw announce desk later that same year.
