Jim Ross Calls Kenny Omega ‘Special’
Jim Ross thinks Kenny Omega is hottest talent outside of WWE.
Omega's match with Kazuchika Okada from New Japan Pro Wrestling's Wrestle Kingdom 11 has garnered attention since January 4th. Dave Meltzer loved the match and called it the best ever, while others think it's overrated. Ross watched Omega's match against Okada when he did English commentary for a North American re-broadcast of Wrestle Kingdom 11. Before watching the match, Ross had already stated WWE should be looking at Omega. In his blog from Monday, Ross gave his impression of the match and Omega.
Ross wrote "Loved the Omega vs Okada match from Wrestle Kingdom 11 that Josh Barnett and I voiced over last week in LA at AXSTV studios. The bout aired Friday night and it was excellent to say the least. Was the main event from the Tokyo Dome the best match that I ever saw? Not sure that i can go that far but I can't say what matches that I've called that were better. It's challenging for me to name one match that was the "greatest ever" but I have been blessed to have called many great ones over the years. Flair-Steamboat '89 trilogy, DiBiase-Flair-Murdoch angle, HHH-Foley, HBK-Taker, Austin-Rock all come to mind, among others, for me. How do I leave out Midnight Express vs Rock 'n Roll Express and the WM13 classic of Bret Hart vs Austin?"
Not only did Ross mention Omega versus Okada among his favorite matches to call, he said Omega is at the very top of the professional wrestling world outside of WWE.
"Bottom line is that NJPW has something special on their hands with Omega who everyone seems to want to go to WWE. That will likely happen some day but I'd be surprised if it happened in 2017. Omega is the hottest talent in the world that WWE doesn't have signed and are legitimately in the hunt for in the opinion of many insiders," wrote Ross.
Since the match, John Cena has made Instagram posts alluding to Kenny Omega and Triple H has spoken on Omega's talent. In the rest of his blog, Ross also discussed the recent passing of Jimmy Snuka and the WWE United Kingdom Tournament.
