EXCLUSIVE: Elias Theodorou Explains Why The UFC Puts On So Many Fights

UFC Ultimate Fighter Nations winner Elias Theodorou made his first appearance on the Fightful MMA Podcast with Showdown Joe on January 10.

One of the topics the two discussed was Theodorou’s belief that the promotion he works for — the UFC — is putting on too many fights.

“Interim belts for everyone, that’s my answer, interim belts for everyone. We’re owned by…what the UFC’s owned by a talent agency (WME-IMG) that is wanting to build content. This is, love it or not, disagree with me or not, in many ways this is not necessarily a sport anymore. It’s a content provider, that’s what they’re doing and the most amount of fights is what they’re trying to sell. They have a lot of investors that they have to get their $4.2 billion back from and their going to try and make those money fights, so…interim belts for all.”

According to UFC.com, the promotion has a total of eight events lined up between UFC Fight Night 103 on January 15 and UFC Fight Night 107 on March 18.

As for Theodorou, he will be taking on fellow middleweight Cezar Ferreira at UFC Fight Night 105 on Sunday, February 19.
