Bellator 173 Gets Main Event
The main event is set for next month’s Bellator 173 card as former light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary will be seeking a victory over Chris Fields.
McGeary (9-1-0) will be competing for the first time since losing the Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Title to UFC veteran Phil Davis at Bellator 163. McGeary would defeat Emmanuel Newton by unanimous decision at Bellator 134, and he would successfully defend the championship once against former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz. McGeary also won the 2014 Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Tournament, defeating Kelly Anundson in the finals.
Fields (10-6-1) will be making his Bellator MMA debut in this fight and does so after winning just one of his last three bouts. Fields is a longtime veteran of the Cage Warriors promotion, with his most notable win coming over Jack Mason by first round TKO at Cage Warriors 45. Fields has fought at least two Bellator MMA veterans in the past, defeating the aforementioned Jack Mason and taking Norman Paraisy to a draw.
Bellator 173 takes place on Friday, February 24 from the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland with Liam McGeary and Chris Fields headlining, the main card will air on Spike TV.
