Dominik Mysterio: Teachers And Kids Used To Ask Me Who My Father Was

In 2005, an eight-year-old Dominik Mysterio was the centerpiece of a feud between Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero.

Eddie claimed to be Dominik’s father and a battle for custody was set-up in a ladder match at SummerSlam. Mysterio won, proving that he is the true father of Dominik.

Unfortunately for Dominik, the angle had real-life complications.

“For me, it was harder to have to explain to the kids at school who my dad was. I think that was the most challenging part,” Dominik told Metro. “Oh yeah, 100% people were coming up to me asking me – even teachers, they were like, ‘Who’s your father, Dominik?’ I’d be like, ‘Well it’s Rey Mysterio, this guy right here, Oscar.’ It was crazy. Being able to work with the great Eddie Guerrero, first person I ever got to work with. I’m very blessed. As an eight year old, I was excited to skip school and travel with my dad and get given candy by Eddie. It was a great time. And I remember in between takes that we would do of vignettes, he would give me Twizzlers, Red Vines, Lemonheads, bunch of candy. I wish he was there [at SummerSlam] that day [to see my debut]. It is what it is. We miss him, we love him. He’s one of the greatest of all time.”

15 years after Dominik learned of his true father, he made his in-ring debut at SummerSlam this past August, losing to Seth Rollins.
