Dana White Calls Meryl Streep An ‘Uppity 80-Year Old Woman”
Meryl Streep drew the ire of many in the world of MMA after her comments about the sport at the Golden Globe. UFC President Dana White is certainly one of them. Streep seemingly criticized the lack of diversity and art involved in MMA and football.
"It's not going to be everybody's thing, and the last thing I expect is an uppity, 80-year old lady to be in our demographic," White said to TMZ. "Maybe she did (attack White for speaking at the Republican National Convention). If you look at who follows MMA, it's everybody. Everybody's into what they're into. If you don't like it. Change the channel."
White also addressed Streep's comments that MMA isn't an "art" during her speech.
"Of course it's an art. These men and women are so talented. They train their whole lives. The people who get into the UFC is the elite of the elite. Saying something stupid like that is like saying she's not a talented actress — she is. We have fighters from all over the world. She's not educated about the sport, and it was a completely uneducated comment," said White.
It's worth noting the UFC has over 300 foreign fighters under contract, and Meryl Streep is 67-years old, not 80.
