The rematch between Poirier and McGregor was first pitched by the two lightweights as a December charity bout in Dublin, Ireland. After catching wind of their conversations, White and UFC offered the contest to both men as a sanctioned UFC card.
“[Conor] called out Poirier for a fight with [Conor] in Dublin for charity. So we offered them both a fight,” White told Barstool Sports earlier this week. “We offered Dustin and Conor a fight, so we’re waiting to hear back from both of them.”
McGregor and Poirier met for the first time at UFC 178 in September 2014, which McGregor won by first-round TKO.
