ROH Wrestling Television Results for 9/21/20 Episode #470 Finlay vs Romero, Sydal vs Delirious

The first round of the PURE Title Tournament continues on this week’s episode of Ring of Honor!

– We open this week’s episode with a recap of last week’s matches in which Jonathan Gresham and Jay Lethal won their opening round matches in the PURE Title Tournament. We then get post match promos by the two where Lethal says that he’s excited to face either David Finlay or Rocky Romero for the first time.

– We get extended video package promos by David Finlay and Rocky Romero ahead of their tournament match up next.

ROH PURE Title Tournament First Round Match

David Finlay vs Rocky Romero

The NJPW alum start things off by grappling on the mat before David gets to the ropes for his first of three rope breaks. David starts focusing on the shoulder of Rocky, keeping him grounded with a headlock and a nerve hold. David goes back to Rocky’s shoulder when switching back and forth between holds before Rocky gets to his feet. Rocky comes back with strikes before hitting a diving stomp for two before David locks in a Trailer Hitch. Rocky uses his first rope break to get free before coming back with elbows and uppercuts before David counters a Shiranui into a backbreaker.

David then hits the Trash Panda for the pin and the win.

Winner: David Finlay defeats Rocky Romero via pinfall to advance to the next round of the tournament.

– After the match we see that David will be facing Jay Lethal before we get an extended video package for Matt Sydal and Delirious ahead of their tournament match up next.

ROH PURE Title Tournament First Round Match

Matt Sydal vs Delirious

Matt stops a takedown by Delirious and grounds him before Delirious locks in a heel hook and Matt gets to his feet before taking Delirious down and locking in a head scissor on the mat. Delirious then gets back up to his feet as we go to commercial.

We come back to Matt in control, having put Delirious in several submission attempts during the break that caused him to use two rope breaks. Matt gets two off of a jumping knee before hitting a standing corkscrew splash for another deep two count. Delirious locks in a cobra clutch into an overhead suplex before locking in a rear naked choke. Matt then nearly passes out before Matt gets free with a pin attempt before locking in a cross face for the tap and the win.

Winner: Matt Sydal defeats Delirious via submission to advance to the next round of the tournament. 

– After the match we get a graphic for the updated standings where we see that Matt will face Jonathan Gresham in the next round as we go off the air.
