Coach Says Dan Hooker Willing To Fight Tony Ferguson But Not At UFC 254

Dan Hooker wants a piece of Tony Ferguson, just not at UFC 254.

Former UFC interim lightweight champion Ferguson was left without an opponent for UFC 254 after the UFC couldn’t come to terms with his planned opponent Dustin Poirier. Eugene Bareman is the coach for Dan Hooker and he says Hooker is willing to face Ferguson, but not at UFC 254.

“October is a bit early for us, otherwise we would jump in there straight away for sure,” Bareman said on Submission Radio (via Jed Meshew of MMA Fighting). “But if they can push it back. Dan just got off concussion protocol now, so of this week. So, he’s only just started back training. So, obviously October might be a hard push.”

Hooker last competed in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Poirier vs. Hooker, losing to the aforementioned Poirier by decision. Bareman says that Hooker is most likely willing to fight at UFC 254, but he would try to talk Hooker out of doing it.

“He would do it,” Bareman said. “I would have to talk him out of it, but he would probably do it one hundred percent. But Dan’s just back now, he’s getting fit again, it’s good to have him back in the gym. So, yeah, if they can’t come to terms, and it sounds like they haven’t come to terms, then we’ll jump in there and fight Tony for sure.”

Ferguson has taken to social media to try and get the UFC to pay Poirier to fight at UFC 254, but no progress has been made at this time.
