Iranian Wrestler Navid Afkari Sentenced To Death After Protesting Against Iranian Government
Navid Afkari, a highly decorated Iranian wrestler, and his two brothers participated in a peaceful protest against the Iranian government in 2018 and Navid has been sentenced to death for his participation.
A report from TMZ Sports states that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Supreme Court gave Afkari two death sentences for protesting against the government’s economic policies. All three brothers were charged with “attending illegal gatherings, assembly and conspiracy to commit crimes against national security, and insulting the supreme leader,” but only Navid was sentenced to death.
The two brothers will still get length prison sentences, although an exact amount of time wasn’t revealed at this time, while both will also get 74 lashes, Navid will get 74 lashes as well.
Navid’s mother called the whole legal situation an “unjust court hearing full of lies.”
“My sons were not able to defend themselves at all,” said Navid’s mother.
