New IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Crowned At NJPW Summer Struggle In Jingu
Taiji Ishimori is the new IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion.
Ishimori defeated Hiromu Takahashi at NJPW Summer Struggle in Jingu, forcing him to tap out with a modified crossface. Ishimori focused on the banged up shoulder of Takahashi all match and had a counter for everything Takahashi threw at him. Ishimori kicked out of the Time Bomb and hit a modified Bloody Cross that further damaged the shoulder of Takahashi, which led to the submission victory.
This marks Ishimori’s third reign as IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion. He held the title in 2019, losing it at G1 Supercard in April. Takahashi’s reign lasted 237 days.
