Derrick Lewis Has Three Opponents In Mind For His Next Fight

Derrick Lewis last competed in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Oleinik, defeating Aleksei Oleinik by second round knockout.

A victorious Lewis competed in front of no crowd at the UFC Apex, which is something the fighter had some problems dealing with.

“I was wishing there were crowds in the stands because I was snorting, making a funny noise while he was choking the hell out of my neck,” Lewis said after the event (via Nolan King of MMA Junkie). “I was like, ‘damn, I’m making too much noise. I wonder if they can hear it on TV.’ So I can’t tap like that. I know my kids watching. They would tease me forever.”

Lewis, who has now won three straight under the UFC banner, is ranked #4 in the UFC heavyweight division.

The fighter now has his focus set towards the future and there are three opponents that Lewis wants to face next.

“Curtis Blaydes makes sense,” Lewis said. “(Francis) Ngnannou makes sense. (Alistair) Overeem makes sense. That’s about it. We’ll see what happens next week and see who makes sense after that match. I for sure have to get down 15-20 pounds to feel comfortable in there. Yep, then you’ll really see something scary out of me, for sure.”

Of the three fighters mentioned by Lewis, only one in Alistair Overeem is booked for a bout, as he faces August Sakai at UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Sakai.
