Report: Charles Ontiveros Replaces Eric Spicely At UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Shahbazyan

Eric Spicely has been pulled from UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Shahbazyan, replacing him against Markus Perez is Charles Ontiveros.

MMA Junkie first reported the news, with Spicely saying a bad weight cut mixed with antidepressant medication being the reason for his withdrawal.

Perez (12-3-0) has rotated wins and losses throughout his UFC run, with the latest bout being a unanimous decision loss to Wellington Turman at UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo. Perez has suffered three losses as a professional MMA fighter and all of them came in UFC competition. Perez has picked up twelve wins as a professional MMA fighter and half of them have come by way of submission.

Ontiveros (11-6-0) is making his UFC debut in this bout and does so on the strength of a two fight winning streak. Ontiveros did compete once before in Bellator MMA, suffering a first round TKO loss to Michael Page at Bellator 144. Ontiveros has suffered six losses as a professional MMA fighter and all of them came by way of KO/TKO.  

UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Shahbazyan takes place on Saturday, August 1 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with Derek Brunson and Edmen Shahbazyan headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
