Alexander Gustafsson Says He Beat Fabricio Werdum Bad During Past Sparring Session, Werdum Disagrees
Both fighters have sparred together in the past and Gustafsson says he beat Werdum badly during their past battles.
“We had a good sparring,” Gustafsson said during the UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs. Till virtual media day (via Farah Hannoun & John Morgan of MMA Junkie). “I went all in, him and me and it was a good sparring. I don’t remember who I was fighting back then, but I was in camp, he was in camp for a fight, but make history short, I beat him in that sparring session. I beat him bad…then he didn’t want to spar me no more.”
Gustafsson even claimed that he broke Werdum’s nose when they sparred back in the day.
Werdum, who doesn’t remember much about sparring with Gustafsson, says that Gustafsson didn’t break his nose or do much damage when they sparred.
“I don’t remember that, I think he made up a bit of it,” Werdum said during the UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs. Till virtual media day (via Danny Segura & John Morgan of MMA Junkie). “He cut my nose, but he didn’t break it and you don’t talk about that, you don’t talk about training, but he remembers. We were training at Mark Munhoz’s gym with Travis Browne and Gustafsson. I offered myself to go train there and ended up training with both of them many rounds.”
UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs. Till takes place on Saturday, July 25 from Fight Island in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi with Robert Whittaker and Darren Till headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on ESPN.
