Good Brothers: The OC Name Was A Triple H Idea, Vince McMahon Probably Didn’t Remember The Club

We’ve been on the run, driving in the sun, looking out for number one, WWE here we come, right back where we started from.

In July 2019, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, and AJ Styles reunited on television as The OC. Fans immediately referenced the TV show The OC which aired on FOX from 2003 to 2007 and had one of the most iconic theme songs in history.

Speaking on Talk’N Shop Live, Gallows & Anderson discussed the name and why WWE executives didn’t think fans would recall the hit TV series.

“It was a Hunter thing,” said Gallows. “I don’t think people remember the TV show. Of course, the wrestling internet remembers and they spoofed on it. In [WWE’s] defense, it would have been weird to just go back to The Club, which just stopped for no reason. I think that was their thing and they wanted to give us the old, they love saying this in WWE — you’re rolling good and have a title reign and all of a sudden you’re off TV and you come back and lose and they go, ‘you need a fresh coat of paint.’ I think they splattered some red and black on us and gave us a ‘fresh coat of paint.'”

Anderson added, “At first, it was a Vince thing. In all honestly, I don’t think he remembered we were called The Club. There’s so much going in Vince’s brain and so many guys he’s dealing with. He wanted something in front of The Club. Triple H told us, ‘he wants it something besides The Club.’ We got the text from Hunter and said, ‘What if you guys are The Original Club? The Only, The Original, The Official, The Only Club That Matters, The OC.’ We were like, ‘Fuck it, it sounds pretty cool.'”

Gallows & Anderson didn’t seem to mind what they called them as they were going to be paid regardless.

“This is something funny somebody said, ‘The OC was on MTV.’ Hunter goes, ‘Fuck MTV.’ I get what he’s saying. People saying, ‘The OC, of course they are gonna remember it.’ I remember the Street Profits were signing The OC song on Raw, trying to make fun of The OC, but it was awkward because nobody knows the fucking song. We’ve heard of the show, but I can understand in the wrestling world, it gets lost,” added Anderson.

The Good Brothers compared the situation to Dolph Ziggler’s name, saying how it was similar to Dirk Diggler and they didn’t think it would work, but now they can’t imagine Dolph Ziggler as anyone but Dolph Ziggler.

The former OC are now going by The Good Brothers in IMPACT Wrestling.
