Report: Nicco Montano/Julia Avila II Moved To 9/5 UFC Card After Coach’s Positive Coronavirus Test
A women’s bantamweight division rematch between #15 Julia Avila and Nicco Montano, originally set for UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Oleinik, has been moved to the yet to be announced September 5 UFC card.
MMA Fighting first reported the bout rescheduling, while My MMA News first reported that the reason for the move was because Montano’s coach in John Wood tested positive for the coronavirus.
Montano (4-3-0) has won just one of two under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Roxanne Modafferi at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale. Montano is the first ever UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion, defeating the aforementioned Modafferi to win that title. Montano hasn’t picked up a win in almost three years, as the UFC Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale took place in December of 2017.
Avila (8-1-0) won the first encounter between herself and Montano, with that win coming by way of unanimous decision at HD MMA 7 in January of 2017. Avila has already picked up a pair of wins in UFC competition, with those victories coming over Pannie Kianzad and Gina Mazany. Avila has picked up eight wins as a professional MMA fighter and four of them came by way of KO/TKO.
The yet to be announced UFC card is set for Saturday, September 5 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be announced.
