Adam Cole Reflects On Having Shawn Michaels And Triple H As Mentors In NXT
Adam Cole misses performing for an audience of screaming NXT Fans but admits that D-Generation X founders, Triple H and Shawn Michaels, are enough of an audience to still give him butterflies before a big match.
Adam Cole was NXT Champion for over 400 days. That all came to an end when Keith Lee defeated him on the second night of NXT’s Great American Bash and dethroned him at the top of the black and gold mountain.
Prior to dropping the belt, Adam Cole spoke to Metro in the UK about performing in front of only an audience of his peers and how Triple H and Shawn Michaels continue to motivate him to perform as though there is a packed arena full of a screaming NXT Universe.
“I miss [the fans] so much,” he admitted. “Wrestling definitely hurts more and you notice the bumps and the bruises a little bit more because you don’t have the adrenaline as much from the live audience. ‘However, there is still a massive amount of nerves. You don’t forget that there’s a camera on you and this is going to be on national television and worldwide on the WWE Network.”
He continued, “On top of that, I know that Triple H and Shawn Michaels are back there watching the match as well so I’ve got to perform well for them! I say this all the time and it never gets hold – to have Shawn Michaels as a mentor? Nine-year-old me, his mind is still blown!”
It is not known what is next for Adam Cole and the members of Undisputed ERA, but according to Triple H, the “Panama City Playboy” is just getting started.
