Report: Jun Akiyama Moving To DDT As A Rental
Jun Akiyama is making a move to DDT.
According to Tokyo Sports, Jun Akiyama will be moving from All Japan to DDT as a rental. The deal is expected to be announced this weekend.
DDT President Sanshiro Takagi consulted with All Japan President Takenori Fukuda regarding the deal, reportedly evaluating Akiyama’s leadership and influence. Akiyama had been participating as a guest coach/wrestler for DDT since May 9.
The rental period is expected to be within a year and Akiyama will be treated as a DDT wrestler during that time. Akiyama is the former president of All Japan, having stepped down in July 2019.
“Mr. Akiyama felt a lot of growth for the younger players, and I was also inspired by the main wrestlers such as Konosuke Takeshita. From now on, we are going to take a step forward rather than a guest coach,” said Takagi.
In March it was reported that Akiyama would travel to the United States to be a guest coach at the WWE Performance Center from May 12 to 22. That didn’t happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
