NAC May Investigate Roberts Drysdale For Not Ending Max Rohskopf Fight, Drysdale & Dana White Comment

Max Rohskopf kicked off the UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Volkov preliminary card, suffering a second round TKO loss to Austin Hubbard.

Audio and video that aired during the broadcast showed that head cornerman Robert Drysdale refused to stop the bout at Rohskopf’s request, promoting Rohskopf to end the fight himself and now the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) may investigate Drysdale’s actions.

“That’s something we will take a look at,” NSAC executive director Bob Bennett told ESPN. “We might want to take disciplinary action on them. That doesn’t sound like they are looking out for a fighter. Obviously, he didn’t want to come out [and fight]. It may come up in a future hearing. We will take an official look at it.”

Drysadle would speak with ESPN as well after the controversial encounter and the cornerman will stand by his actions.

“I stand by what I did,” Drysdale said. “I expect excellence from the people I train because I love them. He wasn’t seriously hurt, and I felt he needed a mental push. I would expect the same from my coach. We will be back. Max is a champion. Which is why I was pushing him. That is the job of a coach, to push their fighters physically, technically and mentally. I did my job, and I have no regrets because I believe Max has potential to be one of the greats.”

Brian Butler is Rohskopf’s manager and he believes Rohskopf quit on Saturday Night was due to the fatigue surrounding the short notice fight.

“Max suffered from fatigue due to the short-notice weight cut combined with a preexisting turf toe injury and was not able to overcome both,” Butler said. “Didn’t think the turf toe would become an issue but combined with the fatigue he just could not keep going. He is going to take some time off to heal up.”

Rohskopf was a late replacement for Joe Solecki, who pulled out of the bout against Hubbard just over a week ago.

UFC President Dana White was in attendance at the event and he says nobody should be judging Rohskopf for quitting against Hubbard.

“If that kid felt like he needed to quit tonight, who the f— is anybody to judge him on that?” White said.

There is no word yet as to what kind of penalty that the commission potentially could be handing out to Drysdale.
