Curtis Blaydes Dominates, Other Top 15 Fights At UFC Vegas 3

UFC Vegas 3 brought some important fights to fans’ screens on Saturday night.

The show was headlined by #3 heavyweight Curtis Blaydes against #7 Alexander Volkov. To this point, only Francis Ngannou has proven effective against Blaydes, and that remained the case Saturday night. Blaydes mauled Volkov en route to a dominant, one sided unanimous decision on the back of his wrestling skills. Blaydes extended his winning streak to four.

The co-main event of the night was the “people’s” main event, with #8 Josh Emmett putting on a great striking performance against #10 Shane Burgos. Emmett won the unanimous decision after a bout that lived up to the hype provided beforehand.

#6 Raquel Pennington was tasked with facing #10 Marion Reneau, and disposed of her accordingly, after a three round unanimous decision win. For Pennington, it was her second win in three fights.

Pennington’s fiancee, #12 Tecia Torres had her back against the wall against the surging Brianna Van Buren. A loss would have likely meant the end of her UFC run, but she was able to rally and take all three rounds on all three scorecards against Van Buren to end the losing streak.

#7 Lauren Murphy looks like she’ll be moving up in the rankings next week, after toppling #6 Roxanne Modafferi in a unanimous decision. She won 30-27 on all but one scorecard, which ended up at a 29-28.

Though unranked, Justin Jaynes scored an upset TKO win over Frank Camacho, while Jim Miller upset Roosevelt Roberts in a first round submission, Bobby Green won a unanimous decision over veteran Clay Guida, and Belal Muhammad topped Lyman Good via unanimous decision.
