Road Dogg Believed He’d Be Dead By Now, Praises Triple H & Shawn Michaels For Uplifting Him
For many stars of WWE’s Attitude Era, life on the road and substance abuse led to many hard times and for some, an untimely end. Brian “Road Dogg” James was sure he would be just another statistic but is very happy to be alive today.
Speaking with Corey Graves on WWE’s After The Bell podcast, Road Dogg opened up about how he thought he would be dead by now and how Triple H and Shawn Michaels help keep him afloat by mentoring him spiritually and keeping his maturity in check.
“When I was doing that and I look forward to now, I thought I’d be dead,” said the former Intercontinental Champion. “That’s a sad, pathetic truth that I’m very happy is not the truth. I’m very happy I’m not [dead.]”
He continued, “Shawn helps me spiritually a great deal. He keeps me grounded and Hunter helps me with maturity. Like with a business sense and a maturity. I still like to have fun, don’t get me wrong, but we can have fun and be grounded at the same time. So I really love working with those guys. It seems like down there everybody’s working for the same goal and it’s a team environment. It’s a different environment down there, that’s all there is to it. You’re on this small little island down here. You either all row towards shore or you are nothing. It’s so cool man. It really is and like I mentioned before, [it’s] so rewarding to not only get to do the kind of the same stuff we were doing back then but do it with new characters.”
