The face of the Bantamweight division has changed now that Henry Cejudo has retired. UFC 250 saw two major fights help shape the division.

What should have been the co-main event should have also been a fight for the vacant Bantamweight Championship pitted #2 Aljamain Sterling vs. #4 Cory Sandhagen. Sterling immediately took the fight to the ground and applied a body triangle and a rear naked choke to put Sandhagen out. This likely earned Sterling a title fight against the winner of the Jose Aldo vs. Petr Yan fight that was booked for some weird reason.

In a true “one of em’ has to win!” fight, #9 Cody Garbrandt looked to pick up his first win since 2016 against perennial contender, #5 Raphael Assuncao. The age of Assuncao showed, as he fell behind in the fight, and was knocked out at the horn at the end of the second round.

While not a major fight within the division, the event also saw a former title challenger in Eddie Wineland take on the surging “Sugar” Sean O’Malley, which saw O’Malley brutalize Wineland with a walk off KO. Meanwhile on the prelims, veteran Alex Caceres knocked off up-and-comer Chase Hooper via unanimous decision.
