Gilbert Burns Dominates Tyron Woodley, More Top 15 Fights

UFC returned to Las Vegas Saturday night at the UFC Apex, and was headlined by a major Welterweight fight.

#6 Gilbert Burns looked to top the returning #1 Tyron Woodley, and it didn’t take him long to gain the advantage. Right out of the gate, Woodley was rocked. Over the course of the three rounds that followed. Woodley’s corner let him know he needed a finish to win, but it didn’t change anything.

Burns beat the brakes off of the former Welterweight Champion in Woodley, dominating across all five rounds. After moving up from Lightweight, Burns is 4-0 in the division.

#13 Augusto Sakai and #12 Blagoy Ivanov had a very close fight, that probably shouldn’t have been slated in the co-main event spot to begin with. Sakai ended up taking home a split decision victory to set the stage for the main event.

#2 Katlyn Chookagian did nothing to lose her ranking spot against #12 Antonina Shevchenko. After losing to Antonina’s sister Valentina, Katlyn knocked off the elder sister in a dominating, one sided unanimous decision.

The remaining ranked fighter on the night’s show was #11 Tim Elliott, a former title challenger. However, it would appear his title contention days are behind him, as Brandon Royval submitted him in the second round with an arm triangle.
