Kurt Angle Says His New Anti-Addiction App Could Save Ex-NBA Star Lamar Odom’s Life
Kurt Angle says his new addiction management app could "save" former Los Angeles Laker Lamar Odom.
Odom checked himself into rehab earlier this week, fearing he might start using hardcore drugs again.
Angle talked to TMZ Sports about "AngleStrong," which is an app he designed to help recovering addicts stay on the straight and narrow once they leave rehab. Angle is a former addict himself.
"I've been a recovering addict for almost four years and I wanted to do something to help other people," he said. "The AngleStrong App is basically the addiction recovery after care, because there's not a lot of after-care after you get out of rehab; you can go to AA meetings, but to do that every day is really difficult if you're working … this app just makes it a lot easier."
Angle says it also has the potential to make things easier on the recovering addict's loved ones.
"Not only this, but we also want the families to join the app, too, because studies have shown that recovering addicts relapse or overdos–or both–when they're isolated. So when you check into this app, you have to every day. If you don't check in, your family's notified. So at least your family knows, without being overbearing and being on top of you all the time, at least they know how you're doing."
Angle was asked if AngleStrong could save Lamar Odom, the former NBA star and world champion who has had struggles with hard drugs over the past several years. "Without a doubt," Angle began. "He has checked into rehab, and I'm sure he's taken steps for a little while and then he probably got off track; this app keeps you on track every single day. It's not that easy to go seek help and to get counseling … There are some people who might not even have to go to rehab. I highly recommend rehab, no doubt about it, it's the best thing I ever did in my life."
Kurt came out and admitted that at one point he was taking up to 65 pills of Vicodin a day. The AngleStrong app came out of an addiction recovery program by the same name that Angle started earlier this year.
The AngleStrong App will be available on January 15.
