Shane Helms: I Definitely Want To Wrestle, I Never Retired
Shane Helms isn’t done yet.
Helms hasn’t wrestled since CHIKARA Fright Knight in April 2019 as he’s been working as a WWE producer since January 2019, but after being furloughed by WWE, Helms has been itching to get back into the ring.
“I definitely want to wrestle because I never retired,” Helms said on Chris Jericho’s Saturday Night Special. “I never uttered the ‘R word.’ When I was finishing out my Indie dates, I had so many because I was super busy when I signed with WWE. If there was a big Indie show, I was on it. I love going and working with different people and doing what I want. It was only a couple of weeks before my last match that I realized it was my last match. I wasn’t ready to hang it up. And I’m still not. And because I was with WWE, every Monday I have to see this wrestling ring that I want to be in and now I can’t. And it’s like a drug addict looking at a bunch of drugs. I started to figure out Vince wasn’t going to pay me to sit at home forever. I was talking to [my wife] and said, ‘I need to go ahead and get back in ‘spandex shape.'”
Helms said he’s currently around 220 pounds but would like to get down to 210 pounds. Helms could return to WWE when the furlough ends — reportedly on July 1 — but with the coronavirus pandemic still ongoing, plans remain in flux.
