Aiden English: If WWE Didn’t Care About 205 Live, They Wouldn’t Produce The Show
205 Live has become the forgotten brand in WWE with Raw, SmackDown, and NXT taking precedent. The show airs following SmackDown on Fridays on WWE Network and is looked at as an afterthought by WWE to many outside observers.
But Aiden English claims that if WWE truly didn’t care about the show, they wouldn’t produce it.
“People love to feel like someone is getting screwed by the man. I think there was a feeling of that from people who love 205 Live that it was getting brushed to the side,” English said to Inside The Ropes. “You don’t have to be a genius to see that it wasn’t going to get the attention of Raw and SmackDown, those are the flagship shows. Those need the majority of the attention, that’s where the revenue is coming. You’re talking about a huge production company…if it’s on your television, people care about it. At the end of the day, they’re not going to take the time to put us in the same arena as SmackDown every week, put the talent out there, produce, edit…they’re not going to do that if they don’t care. Where it’s at on the hierarchy of shows, it probably wasn’t at the tip-top. But guys like Mustafa Ali were trying to push it further and that’s what made it fun. That’s what makes a lot of WWE fun. Before NXT became NXT, we were doing the same thing. It gives guys motivation. If they didn’t care, it wouldn’t be on television.”
English served as an announcer on 205 Live from January 2019 to April 2020. He was released by WWE on April 15.
